Rachel Getting Married – Review

Rachel Getting Married showed that I have brain damage.
When the Oscar nominations come out, I will add some of those movies to my queue. Nothing wrong with that. But even if it’s blatantly obvious that I will not enjoy a particular movie, I’ll add it anyway. Normal people don’t watch movies this way. I’m sure of it.
So the big deal about Rachel Getting Married is that Anne Hathaway got an Oscar nom for her performance of a troubled-just-out-of-rehab kind of girl. She did a good job, but I didn’t see where the nomination came from. Afterall, anyone could do a decent job with a few hours of studying Lohan in the tabloids.
I will say that I enjoy character studies, so Anne’s plotline was somewhat interesting. The problem was that it wasn’t the main point of the movie. Anne plays Rachel’s sister and way, way too much time was spent on Rachel’s wedding.
For instance, the longest scene in the movie takes place during the rehearsal dinner. You know how that’s the time everyone tells funny stories about the soon-to-be newlyweds? Image you crash a dinner full of strangers. And then have to sit there for a half hour while people you don’t care about tell stories about two more people you don’t care about. If that sounds like a rockin good time, go rent Rachel Getting Married. Enjoy it with the rest of us brain damaged ones.
